Professional career in brief:
I have had an exceptionally interesting career in the Estonian public sector and politics.
In 2000 I started as a political councilor for Tallinn City Government where my main responsibilities included city planning and road construction. I have been the Head of Communication Division at Estonian Reform Party where I was responsible for marketing and for managing several successful election campaigns, among them a victorious campaign for Euro referendum in 2003.
In 2007-2011 I worked as the Chief of Staff at Prime Minister’s Office for the PM Andrus Ansip (present Vice-President of the European Commission), having to deal with deep financial crises of 2008-2009, budget cuts and economic reforms, despite which Estonia managed to join the Eurozone in 2011.
In 2011 I was elected to the Parliament where I held several positions. As the Chairman of Economic Affairs Committee I dealt mainly with energy issues (opening of the electricity and gas markets), public transport, infrastructure, business policies etc. Becoming the Chairman of European Union Affairs Committee gave me the opportunity to represent Estonian Parliament at the international level and go into depth with EU policies.
Shortly after being re-elected to the Parliament in 2015 I was appointed as a member of the Government. Working as the Minister of Public Administration I initiated the first and only successful local government reform in Estonia. This is referred to be the biggest and most important reform in 10 years by experts and journalists alike. I was also responsible for several state reforms concerning public services and public procurement, but also reducing bureaucracy and public spending, creating innovative IT-solutions and consolidating state real estate.
After the change of Government in November 2016 I continue my work in the Parliament. I am the Deputy Chairman of the Study Committee for the State Reform. I´m also a Member of the Constitutional Committee.
As a result of 2017 local elections I´m representing Pirita district and Estonian Reform Party in Tallinn City Council.
